The Nokia 6500 Classic is a quad band GSM and 3G mobile phone that can connect to mobile networks at up to 3G speeds. The 6500 Classic has a traditional bar design with a depth of 9.5mm.

The phone has over 1GB of internal memory, around 920MBs of which is available for storing music, video clips, ringtones and other user content. This is enough, for example, for hundreds of songs, which can be listened to using the Nokia 6500's music player.

The handset also contains a 2 megapixel camera, which can record video at 15 frames per second in 176 x 144 resolution (in MPEG-4 format). For taking photos, the camera has a flash and self timer.

The Nokia 6500 also offers Bluetooth wireless connectivity, Java™ games, email with attachments and a 2 inch screen capable of displaying high clarity images in over 16 million colours.
