The BlackBerry 8100 supports instant / push delivery of email and has document viewers for popular file formats. The handset's SureType® keypad combines standard-style buttons with a QWERTY keyboard and works in conjunction with software to help keep typing easy and accurate. The phone also has trackball-based navigation. The Pearl also offers an LED light and vibrate mode as discreet options for notifying users about incoming messages or calls.

Other features include calendar and address book synchronisation, the facility to access corporate databases remotely, Bluetooth, a web browser, speakerphone, MP3 ringtones and support for additional memory. The Pearl 8100 is compatible with BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
