The BlackBerry 8800 smartphone offers GPS positioning plus support for BlackBerry's instant / push email services. The QWERTY format keyboard is complemeted by a trackball controller.
The built-in GPS unit can be used by BlackBerry Maps® (pre-loaded) and other location-based software to provide mapping and navigation services. The BlackBerry 8800 also offers a media player for music and video. A memory card slot provides scope for substantial music playlists.
Other features include text and instant messaging, a web browser, the option to use the 8800 as a modem for a PC and compatibility with BlackBerry's corporate / enterprise email solutions.
The BlackBerry 8800 also offers features to help manage calls including dedicated and user-defined keys, Bluetooth, speakerphone and voice dialling. Organiser tools can be synchronised with a PC using the supplied cable. The keypad can be locked to prevent accidental operation and the phone can also be password protected for security.
